Pierre Boniface - Les Rocailles Savoie 2024 - 11.5%
A stunning example of Jacquere, the star grape of Apremont, a commune nestled in eastern stretches of the Alps, just southeast of Lyon and not far from the Maconnais and Beaujolais, the southernmost regions of Burgundy. Very few wines come from places as beautiful as this and these particular vineyards surround a small lake which helps to regulate the surrounding microclimate and are in turn bordered by almost unrealistically majestic mountain peaks, which protect from harsh weather events that could harm the vines. This wine in particular walks a perfect balance between floral and mineral aromas in it's intriguingly contradictory bouquet, sharp in its steely overtures and then soften by jasmine and an incredibly, unmistakably intoxicating aroma of cherry blossoms, an entire tree’s worth, all in bloom. This suspense of sharp vs soft, sunny south-facing parcels vs altitude continues to the palate, fleshy, ripe kiwi fruit sits throughout alongside orange blossoms, white peach and a quicksilver-y, glycerin texture lifted with a tangible feel of the land, it feels stony, as if crafted by mountains themselves.
